About the AuthorFrom author Amy Tiemann
The story of High Water came to me while I was working very intensely on an unrelated academic research project. My research was so demanding that I didn’t have time to get away to the mountains to go whitewater rafting, so my mind found a way to escape by imagining Molly and Lisa’s adventures. The girls’ names and basic characteristics came to me all at once, as well as the plot of getting the girls separated from their class during a rafting trip. Even with the basic ideas coming in rapid succession, it still took me a long time to write the whole story down. I felt that I owed it to Lisa and Molly to complete their journey, so I kept working on High Water long after my school project had been completed. Readers ask me whether I am more like Molly or Lisa. Growing up, I was a lot like Molly. In middle school, I always thought that if I could be popular like Lisa, all my troubles would disappear! By writing High Water, I came to see that Lisa has her own challenges and anxieties about staying in the popular crowd. I care about both of these characters very much. They each have strengths and flaws, just like real people. My readers are my most important reviewers. I would love to hear your thoughts about the book. You can email me at amy@highwaterbook.com. I will post excerpts from reader reviews on the HighWaterBook.com website. You can also help spread the word about High Water by posting your reviews on Amazon.com. Thanks for your support!
